Jonathan Gruber, the architect of Mitt Romney's "Romneycare" in Massachusetts confirms what we all knew in this article from Hot Air: "Romneycare" is in all significant respects the same thing as "Obamacare." While it was glaringly obvious that many extremely odious aspects of the two plans were the same--notably mandated coverage of contraceptives, abortifacients, and all abortions, regardless of the religious conviction of the insurer--were the same, Gruber's statement provides further confirmation, as he advised both Romney and Obama while they devised their plans.
It is disturbing to note that, since the two are the same, the best predictor of the success or failure of Obama's plan is Romney's plan. Since the implementation of Romney's program insurance rates in Massachusetts have skyrocketed even as the program goes deeper and deeper into debt. Even Governor Deval Patrick, a Democrat hardly renowned for his positions as a fiscal hawk, has asked the legislature to address the fact that the program is not sustainable.
Both Romney and Obama argue or have argued for a national system of healthcare similar to the failed plan in Massachusetts. Neither man shows the fiscal good sense or comprehension of the true role of a limited government necessary for a president. It is time to stop allowing ourselves to be led by men who do not understand how our country was intended to work and who, through that ignorance, have brought it to the brink of disaster.
