 Biography

Born in Omaha, Nebraska, on December 20, 1960, Tom Hoefling currently resides in Iowa. He has a large family--nine children and two foster children, and he is also father-in-law to two and grandfather to two. He is a Christian, and has been involved in politics as a conservative activist, organizer, and consultant for upwards of twenty years.

Hoefling is known principally for his efforts in defense of life, from birth to natural death, and for his defense of the family. He has also actively supported the Second Amendment--as intended by the authors of the Constitution, that is, as an individual right to keep and bear arms--private property rights, fundamental tax reform, and secure borders. Further, he has advocated for a foreign policy of peace through strength, as advocated by Ronald Reagan.

His efforts to protect the unborn include authoring the Equal Protection for Posterity Resolution, which is a document aimed at revolutionizing the pro-life movement and achieving the final end of the genocide against the unborn which has plagued the country for decades.

He has also been closely associated with Alan Keyes, a prominent conservative commentator, Reagan administration official, and U.S. ambassador to the UN, even serving as Keyes's campaign manager.

2008 saw the formation of America's Party by Hoefling and a group of conservatives disgusted at the prospect of John McCain, who has throughout his career been at best a moderate on the issue of life, taking control of the Republican Party, the previous vehicle for conservatives to achieve lasting change. Hoefling became the chairman of America's Party, and has served in that capacity since that time.

Positions

The Role of Government:
"Just as 'good fences make for good neighbors,' good government is mainly about knowing where the legitimate boundaries are, and having the courage to defend those borders forcefully. This is true in terms of the defense of our territory, our security, and our national sovereignty, of course, but it also applies to the imperative duty all of those in government have to equally protect the God-given, unalienable rights of each individual person, their sacred obligation to stay well within the Enumerated Powers of our Constitution, and of the role government must play in balancing the competing rights and interests of the American people"

Restoration of Limited Government:
"I seek to restore the intended balance between the three separate branches of our government, and to strictly limit government to the Enumerated Powers granted and expressed by the will of the people of the United States in our Constitution.
All existing functions of the Executive branch that are outside of those Enumerated Powers must be eliminated.
All spending and regulation by the Legislative branch that lies outside the Enumerated Powers must cease.
Judges who attempt to legislate from the bench, or who abandon the clear principles of our Constitution, must be checked if liberty and justice are to prevail in our society once again.
I demand a return to adherence to the provisions of the Tenth Amendment: 'The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.'"

Abortion:
"The Constitution's ultimate stated purpose is 'to secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.' The founders put the rights of Posterity on an equal plane with their own rights, and with your rights. Abortion is fundamentally unconstitutional."

"All officers of government in this country, in every branch, at every level, have as the first obligation of their sacred oath the protection of all innocent lives within their jurisdiction. Should I be elected to the office of President of the United States, I will keep my oath. Justice Blackmun, in Roe vs. Wade, admitted that “of course” the child in the womb is protected by the Fourteenth Amendment, if they are a person. Since it is self-evident that they are a person, my first act as President, after having sworn the oath, will be to publish a presidential finding to that effect. My second act will be to ask for the resignation of anyone in the executive branch who will not act accordingly. My third act will be to order the closing of every abortion facility in the country, as per the explicit, imperative requirement of the Supreme Law of the Land. 'No person shall be deprived of life without due process of law.' 'No State shall deprive any person of life without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.'"

God-given Rights:
"Federalism does not include a right to alienate God-given rights, most notably the right to life. Never has, never will. Those rights precede and supersede all written constitutions and humanly-devised laws, coming as they did from God, not from men. Indeed, all officers of government, at all levels, have a sworn obligation to protect the lives and the liberty of the people, all of the people. It's the primary reason for the existence of those governments and those offices, all of them."

The 2nd Amendment:
"The right of self-preservation and self-protection is inherent in all persons, communities and societies, which is why I fiercely defend the indispensable provisions of our Second Amendment. Liberty cannot be protected if the people have been stripped of the physical means of doing so."

Private Property Rights:
"Private property, the ownership of the means of production by the people, is a cornerstone of American liberty. Without it our free enterprise system, our free markets, and our republican form of self-government cannot endure. Without it, we cannot prosper. That is why I will defend against any trespass against this most basic, cherished, and necessary of our God-given, unalienable rights. That is why I will only pursue policies that will strengthen the economic position of the individual, the family, and the local community."

Peace Through Strength:
"I believe in a supremely strong, prepared, and well-equipped civilian-controlled United States military, and a bold, visionary and intelligent program of principled constructive engagement with the rest of the world. For me, "peace through strength" is not a mere slogan. It is the means of survival for our country in a very dangerous and often hostile world. Our friendship should be a sought-after possession of all men and women of good will everywhere in the world. Our enmity should be something that all rightfully fear.
As Ronald Reagan opposed and defeated the designs and desire of the Soviet Union to dominate the world and place it under the tyranny of their Evil Empire, I stand unalterably opposed to all who approve of, plan or commit terrorist acts. Since the first principle of America is the protection of innocent human life, any who would use acts of terrorism targeted at innocent civilians to forward their political, ideological or religious aims incur my effective and determined enmity."

Sovereignty:
"I completely oppose any action that surrenders the moral, political or economic sovereignty of the United States and its people, and demand the immediate restoration of that sovereignty wherever it has been eroded.
I demand the immediate securing and continuous vigilant maintenance of our sovereign territory and borders. I oppose any private or governmental action that rewards illegal entry into the United States in any way, and demand speedy and full enforcement of our laws concerning all such activities."

Repeal of the 16th and 17th Amendments:
"I consider the federal income tax to be destructive of our liberty, privacy, and prosperity. Therefore, I am working to bring about its complete elimination and the repeal of the Sixteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I recommend that the current system be replaced by an equitable, simple, noninvasive, visible, efficient tax, one that does not destroy or even infringe upon our economic privacy and liberty.
I also call for the repeal of the Seventeenth Amendment. Its enactment greatly reduced the power of our state legislatures and state governments – which are much closer to the people – and damaged our system of federalism."

Marriage and the Natural Family:
"I seek the passage of a Federal Marriage Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and oppose all attempts everywhere to redefine marriage as being anything but what it has always been: the union of one man and one woman. Since the natural family is the basic God-given institution of our civilization, and the nursery of our future, it must be protected from all who would destroy it."

Tom Hoefling is also the original primary author of America's Party platform and of the Equal Protection for Posterity Resolution.
