Americans Strongly Against Late Abortions

Recent polling by The Polling Company show that Americans are strongly opposed to abortions after the unborn child can feel pain. In fact, with 63% of respondents favoring a law making abortions after the child can feel pain illegal and only 21% opposing such a law, three times more Americans oppose abortions in cases after the child can feel pain than support them.

Perhaps more interesting, new research suggest that pain receptors develop at 8 weeks gestation and are undoubtedly in place at 14 weeks. Although it is encouraging that many Americans would support further protection of unborn children (even if the ability to feel pain is not a particularly convincing measure of the beginning of life), it is disturbing that this support is not reflected in the leading  politicians of either major party. Democrat Barack Obama is one of the most pro-abortion presidents in history, and his Republican challenger Mitt Romney, even if one takes seriously his convenient conversion to a pro-life stance, would see no problem with allowing abortions in cases of rape, incest, and the life of the mother regardless of whether the unborn child can feel pain. It's time to refuse to accept another mostly pro-life politician--America overwhelmingly supports life, and it's time our politicians recognized that.

Tom Hoefling has promised, if elected, to immediately take action to see that abortion providers across the country close their doors. Unlike the candidates from either major party, he recognizes that every life, regardless of race, gender, class, or ability, whether born or unborn, is intrinsically precious. America agrees more and more as time goes on--it is not the American people who are failing the unborn but rather our politicians.

For a new birth of freedom!
